SAN FELIPE MARINA BOASTS GROUND BREAKING
ON THE JACK NICKLAUS SIGNATURE GOLF COURSE
(Golf enthusiasts will soon learn it’s not a mirage)

Thursday March 17th, 2006 was a ground breaking day for South Beach, San Felipe. Among the elite guests was our own Victor Rodriguez, President of the Board of Tourism and Visitors and Convention Bureau in Mexicali (COTUCO). Additional esteemed guests and speakers included Samuel Ramos Flores, the Mayor of Mexicali; Eugenio Elorduy Walther, Governor of Baja California, Mexico; Armando Ramos of San Felipe Marina Resort; and the design specialist from the Diamond Golf Company, a subdivision of Nicklaus Designs.

The bulldozers roared with the crowd at 1pm as they pushed the first mound of dirt, for what is soon to be an 18 Hole SIGNATURE Golf Course, just three miles away from La Hacienda. The golf course is a joint venture between the development of the Baja Diamante and the San Felipe Marina Resort, and means big things for future development of South Beach, San Felipe. Armando Ramos, Samuel Ramos Flores and even Mi CASA del MAR’s president, David La Barre were among those who hit the first balls into what has up till this point been just a vast expanse of desert.

(Fanny Parra)

As the accounting department manager Fanny oversees payroll, A/R, and A/P. Fanny is a dedicated hard-working employee who brings a smile and a consistently good attitude to the work place. She has an important role and is a figure that all Mi CASA del MAR people have come to depend on. Fanny is originally from San Felipe. She lived for several years in Phoenix and learned her English skills. She is pleased that her 2 sisters also work at Mi CASA del MAR. Fanny is married to Javier and they have a young son. Fanny is in the process of building a new home for her family in San Felipe.

From all of us at Mi CASA del MAR, thank you Fanny for your hard work and dedication. You are a shinning example of why this is the company it is today.

With the huge surge of growth in San Felipe, I have had some readers who want to know a little more about the organizations assigned to protect us.

My family and I have just moved to San Felipe. My youngest child was just asking me about the local fire department. Not having heard very much about them, I was thinking that other readers and locals probably want to know a little more about these brave individuals. Do you have any information about the San Felipe Fire Department?

Welcome to our town. Like a lot of others, you have obviously discovered why the city’s motto is “No bad days”.

To answer your question, let me first say that these hard working people at the Estacion No. 15 in San Felipe, are amazing. Typically we don’t hear too much about major fires here simply because of the training these guys have, coupled with the constant fire prevention information they provide.

Some will residents remember September 10, 2005. There was a fire that broke out in the morning at the 15 Pesos Store, next to La Vaquita II on Puerta Penasco. When the owner spoke with us, she explained there was a short in the wiring. Thanks to our fire department, they were able to stop the fire from spreading and it appeared it was put out quickly. Thanks to our brave and vigilant fire fighters, instances like this are far & few between.
