Welcome to the July 2006 Mi CASA del MAR NewsletterPolice car donated by Mi CASA del MAR is ready to Protect and Serve!!![]() You will probably remember the Police car donation by Mi CASA del MAR that was mentioned in the March 2006 Newsletter. Just last week, a representative from the Policia from Mexicali brought the car by the sales office at Mi CASA del MAR for our inspection. The car has a beautiful fresh paint job by the police. It has also been completely outfitted with lights, radios, and everything needed to assist the San Felipe Police Department help keep our city safe. Mi CASA del MAR purchased the car in an auction from the City of Beverly Hills. It is one of the nicest Chevy Tahoe police cars anywhere. It was driven down from the Bay Area of California by one of our Mi CASA del MAR employees in February. It comes with all the standard heavy duty equipment that Chevrolet builds into its police cars for US cities like Beverly Hills. We expect the car to be stationed in the Mi CASA del MAR community. You will most likely see it parked near the entrance at the arches any day! RASTRA® is an insulated concrete form made of 85% recycled foam plastics. When asked about the exciting new materials being used, Ed LaBarre (Mi CASA del MAR’s Construction Manager) had this to say. “This new material is much easier to use than most traditional materials. Most importantly, it helps maintain the same format of environmentally conscious building that we put into all of the homes built at La Hacienda. RASTRA® is a concrete form system made of a lightweight material called THASTYRON, which provides a permanent framework for a grid of reinforced concrete that forms load-bearing walls, shear walls, stem walls, lintels, retaining walls, and other components of a building. THASTYRON offers the ultimate in properties for a wall, such as insulation, soundproofing, fire protection, all in one easy-to-install element. THASTYRON is also resistant against frost and against heat radiation. It does not entertain mold or attract nesting insects. 85% of its volume is recycled post consumer polystyrene waste, which very likely would have ended up in landfills never to disappear. When looking into the building of homes anywhere, not just at La Hacienda, ask about using this material or something like it. Join Mi CASA del MAR in helping to make every home environmentally conscious.

| Dear Alicia, My wife and I have been coming to San Felipe for a while now. We have always enjoyed our time there. On our vacation coming up in late July, we are bringing our 2 kids. They are 12 and 15 years old and very active. What would you recommend for them to do in San Felipe to truly get the most out of their first time here? Thomas |
| Thomas, Having the entire family on vacation can be a lot of fun. It can also take some planning to make sure that everyone has a good time. There are 3 things that I would highly recommend you bring for the kids; sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. Let me first say that San Felipe has something for everyone. There is so much to do outdoors, that it will be hard enough to slow them down. When you do, let them have it. The summer months can get pretty hot, so you will want to have plenty of sunscreen with you. No matter what their favorite activities are, they can most likely find it in San Felipe. For the explorer types there are miles of pristine beaches to set out on adventures. Sand dollars, sea shells, and a multitude of other exciting things can be found. There is also snorkeling, swimming, and the Banana Boat rides (this seems to be a favorite among most). A boat pulls a huge floating banana that carries about 7-10 people along the shore. It doesn’t break any speed records, but goes fast enough to get the blood pumping. For the kids (and adults for that matter) that like a little more excitement, there is plenty to fill their days. There are ATVs to rent and miles of sand dunes to maneuver. Jet-ski, and boat rentals are another fun way to go. Due to the wonderful weather conditions here, the waves do not get very big. This creates a nice smooth ride on the water. You can even take a horse ride along the beach. To fuel them back up (the kids, not the ATV’s), there are plenty of restaurants along the Malecon. They can find everything to eat from the San Felipe born fish taco, to hamburgers and French fries. In addition to bringing the sunscreen, you should remember the camera. This is going to be a trip worth capturing. Regards, Alicia |
