Goldfish

At La Hacienda, we have very picturesque ponds at the entrance to the community. We have three waterfalls and an abundance of plants and trees. We recently added some gold fish as an experiment to the ponds. We didn't hold out too much hope for these $0.15 WalMart specials, but we were very curious being told that gold fish are very tolerant creatures.

We purchased the gold fish, acclimated them to the water, then set them free in the large pond. We went for a couple weeks without seeing them again - but we kept watching. After about four weeks, we were pretty sure they were no more, then we saw a couple. Wow were we excited - they had also grown substantially (250% original size)!

Over the next week we saw more and more of these much larger fish swimming around in the pond. It looks as if most if not all of the original fish survived!

As our landscaping matures we be will adding a fountain to the larger pond for visual appeal and to keep the water cooler for the fish.
