People of all ages having fun at the carnaval

February 12th

As expected, the Third Annual International Paella and Tequila tasting was irresistible. The annual event was held at the El Cortez hotel. The main ingredient in Paella is rice. However, each group created its own unique dish. Some of the large paella pots were filled with crab claws, shrimp, clams, pork, and chicken. Other pots simmered a fine blend for a more Mediterranean-style dish filled with olives and seafood. Mariachis, great food and the warmth of the San Felipe sun are an outstanding combination!
Ask Alicia
Hi Alicia,

My family and I are planning to buy a property in Mexico. We are US citizens and we would like to know if there is another way to own property in Mexico besides the Bank Trust?

Terry and Van

Dear Terry and Van,

Yes, there is another way, a Mexican corporation. The corporation allows the greatest control; it’s easier for you to manage it and is less expensive to set up and administer than the bank trust (fideicomiso). Also, in the corporation you can include as many people as you want as beneficiaries.

Sincerely,
Alicia Parra

San Felipe / Mi Casa del Mar Editorial

Imagine owning your dream home on the coast of the Sea of Cortez in beautiful San Felipe. Imagine a place on the Baja California peninsula where you can relax on the beach and play in the warm surf.

Ah… San Felipe! You could very well say that this jewel overlooking the Sea of Cortez in Northern Baja is one of Mexico’s best kept secrets. Although for years this small fishing village has been the preferred destination for sport fishing enthusiasts and ATV fanatics, the profile of the San Felipe visitor has been evolving. People in California and Arizona are retiring healthier and wealthier; and the value of their property has allowed them to expand their leisure and retirement options. Many of them are considering now the acquisition of a second or third home in a foreign country. The motivations are many and vary from relaxing in a peaceful setting away from the “rat race”, to optimizing their capital in an environment were the cost of housing is significantly less. San Felipe certainly does that for such people and can do it for you as well. The majestic views of the mountain ranges are comparable to those for which people pay millions of dollars in Palm Springs. The sunsets show off an array of colors like scarlet red, purple and royal blue with lily all of which inspire awe in spectators. But San Felipe has an added value to its equation… The Sea of Cortez! And if you would like to know how majestic the landscape looks when you add a tranquil and calm body of water that perfectly reflects the colors of the sky, then you need to go through the San Felipe experience! Many retirees and young professionals are actually making the move toward enjoying this lifestyle permanently and at Mi Casa del Mar at La Hacienda we are helping people live that dream.

Mi Casa del Mar at La Hacienda is an honest and exciting project that has its origin in the early 80’s. A young man named Victor Rodriguez, willful and impetuous, took it upon himself to develop this choice location in San Felipe’s South Beach. Fresh out of college, he found creative ways to bypass his limitations. On occasions trading providers with land in exchange for the materials needed to make his dream come true. And that he did! After family life & circumstances took precedent over what he envisioned for La Hacienda he was forced to shelf the project until a more opportune time arose. But the foundations were set for what would be a chance meeting that would yield wonderful things for this development. The principals of the San Felipe Development Company, LLC from the northern California Bay Area came out of the “.com” era with the capital and urge for a new project. Where would they go? Among their options were Southeast Asia, Cancun, and South America. But the events that shocked the world on 9/11 made them rethink the distance of their upcoming endeavor. Because of this, they sat down and took out a map looking to find a place near the richest state in the union (California), that was a comfortable driving distance, a short flight away, secluded enough that you felt on vacation there, with infrastructure that allows services people are accustomed to, sandy beaches, warms waters you can actually swim in, and where the exorbitant prices of other resort destinations were still years away. They found such a place… that place is San Felipe.

How would they get into this quaint community and do something meaningful? Something that would give all who settled there the breathtaking scenes of San Felipe’s beauty & natural surroundings, without sacrificing the comforts of home. A chance meeting with Victor Rodriguez (who by now was the Mexicali president of Cotuco, the council for tourism and conventions), told them they had found what they were looking for in La Hacienda. After deciding to merge their efforts into one, what is now called Mi Casa del Mar at La Hacienda was brought to fruition. The chief mission of MCDM is to provide quality homes and amenities in a sea side community with an enjoyable lifestyle. Mi Casa del Mar is for those looking to own a fabulous beach home in an exciting vacation resort. Taking a vacation can come at a high price these days, and who’s to say you’ll even enjoy it? When you own your own
beachfront property with Mi Casa del Mar at La Hacienda, you can enjoy the freedom of taking incredible vacations whenever you like. We are diving distance from San Diego, Los Angeles or Yuma giving you more time to enjoy your vacation.

Mi Casa del Mar also caters to those looking for a place to settle down for retirement. Retirement is the one time when they can enjoy life to the fullest. And there’s no better place to do this than in our lush surroundings, where you can enjoy white sandy beaches, fabulous scenery, exciting recreation and awe-inspiring sea views. To many people this sounds like a dream, but with Mi Casa del Mar the dream can become reality. You could own your own stunning beachfront property overlooking the fabulous Sea of Cortez, and for far less than you think. Mi Casa del Mar means: “My home by the Sea”,. So an adequate question is why should you make Mi Casa del Mar YOUR home by the Sea? How about rustic brick paved streets all throughout the development? Or all utilities underground? How about a private source of drinkable water from the tap? Would you like to have a tennis court and pool area in your development? Perhaps you’d like a recreation center with spa to go along with it? Does a 1400 acre master plan that includes 10 beachfront hotel sites, an equestrian park, homes with hangars and an 18 hole Golf Course sound good? Does that sound like something you would like to be a part of? There are cheaper places in San Felipe, but where do you want to live? Where do you want to spend your vacations? Or the rest of your life?! Whether you are looking into buying San Felipe real estate for retirement, vacations or for investment, you will be thrilled by the beauty and amenities at Mi Casa del Mar, La Hacienda. You can enjoy the exciting recreational activities, revel in the unspoiled beauty of the sun-kissed beach, and benefit from the relaxing comfort of a stunning new home.
