Health care in San Felipe
(How does the town of “No Bad Days” measure up?)

Health Care in San FelipeDue to the development of this once small shrimping village, San Felipe has seen an increase in residents and visitors alike.  Especially considering the rise in the number of retirees, the question of available health care has come up.  When you size up this small town and what it has to offer, can it keep up with the medical needs of those who come here?  The answer is nothing short of impressive.

2003 Census statistics were culminated to compare this booming town to the likes of 4 other frequented destinations.  San Felipe was compared to Phoenix, Arizona, and the California cities of Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco.  The factors considered were the total population, total land area, and available hospitals and medical transport.  So, the question was asked.  “Does the town of San Felipe have the proper resources to take care of its residents?”  The results uncovered were staggering.

San Felipe came out on top of all of them.  Compared to the other cities, this tiny contender had the fewest people per square mile and more available health care per person than any of the others.

Here is just one example of the pride and care that is taken by medical professionals in San Felipe when any of it’s many residents or visitors are in need.  The following is an account by an employee of Mi CASA del MAR.

“I’m sure you can imagine my panic when I woke up at 4am and was suddenly having a very difficult time breathing. My fiancé rushed me down to the St. James Infirmary. I was admitted immediately and put on oxygen. The doctor diagnosed it as an asthma attack brought on by allergies to my own cats. He put me on another breathing apparatus to help re-inflate the bronchial tubes and the RN gave me an IV of cortisone. I’ll admit I had my own concerns about the healthcare in San Felipe, but I don’t anymore. When I left St. James I was breathing just fine. The staff was courteous, attentive and knowledgeable. And the best part, aside from being able to breathe normally again, was that it was no where near as costly as it would have been in the states. I feel safe here knowing there is an exemplary hospital very near by!”  -Katrina McCullough-

Its no wonder that the motto of “No Bad Days” belongs to San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico.

Full Broker Co-Op Opportunity
(2nd homes are becoming 1st priority among Americans)

Vacation and investment homes are being bought up faster than they become available.  According to the National Association of Realtors, since baby-boomers are now at the peak of their earning potential, the push to snap up vacation homes is unlikely to reverse soon.  The fact is that the typical age for those seeking vacation retreats is now about 52.  This means that more people are enjoying the fruits of their labor at an earlier age, and actually seeing investment returns of pretty good amounts as well.

2005 saw an incredible rise of second home purchases.  Americans purchased almost 3.5 Million second homes last year alone.  Over 1 million of them were vacation homes, and almost 2.5 million were investment properties.  The total number of 2nd homes purchased in 2005 is up an amazing 16% over 2004 sales.  This is all huge news in itself.  The most impressive number of all to anyone thinking about purchasing a home is “40”.  Of all of the homes sold in 2005 in the entire United States, second home purchases made up almost 40% of the total residential real estate transactions.

Did someone say “Full Broker Co-Op Opportunity”?  Mi CASA del MAR at La Hacienda is South Beach, San Felipe’s premier luxury resort destination.  We now offer a Full Broker Co-Op Opportunity!  We cater to 2nd home owners, retirees and real estate investors alike.  We offer custom built and spec homes in a lush and luxurious seaside resort community.  Mi CASA del MAR can boast what so few other resort communities can:

Las Casitas at La Hacienda
(What a heavenly dilemma)

“So, where do we start first?  After having just woken from a fantastic night’s sleep in our poolside studio, it’s now time to plan the day.  Do we play a nice game of tennis on the large court, and then relax in the huge swimming pool?  With the poolside kitchen they have provided for us, I could whip us up some Margaritas and we could lounge under the warm San Felipe sun.  Maybe we should take the ATVs for a spin in the dunes.  They aren’t very far, and I think they got the best of me last time.  Whatever we do, we need to be back in time for that walk on the beach at sunset.  That is always so romantic.  I guess we both agree.  Everything is so close to Las Casitas at La Hacienda, we can do it all, and still have time to enjoy cocktails at that restaurant by the beach.”

When you stay here you will find that just about everything has been taken care of for you.  Most find themselves so excited at what Las Casitas has to offer, that they try to take in so much in such a short amount of time.  Remember that this is San Felipe.  The town who has adopted the motto of “No Bad Days”.  So, whether you savor every sunset and sunrise, or take everything in that you possibly can.  It will still be the friendly, sunny, and laid-back town the next time you vacation here.  The best part is that your exclusive bungalow or poolside studio will be waiting right here at Las Casitas at La Hacienda in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico.

Ask Alicia

Considering the warm weather and summertime vacations coming up, more people have been asking me where they can get the best deal on a rental car to use when going to San Felipe.

One of my many regular readers emailed me this question:

Dear Alicia,
My husband and I are coming down to San Felipe in our motor home (as we do every 6 months).  This year we have some family members who want to fly down & join us.  This brought up the question of where to rent a car, and what is involved.  Is there anything special to consider when renting a car from San Diego and coming into San Felipe?
Ann,
Portland, Oregon

Ann,
You raise a good question.  With so many places to rent a car from, who is the best to call?  Since I have a co-worker that has family who visit quite often, they have become a great resource for questions like this.  They usually rent an economy car from the San Diego Airport for about a week.  Most of the major car rental places quote $250-$350 for the car rental, and $25-$35 per day for Mexican Car Insurance.  Remember almost all US car insurance policies do not cover you in Mexico and this insurance is mandatory.  The best places to rent a car from are West Coast Auto Rental (at $160 per week), and Becker Auto Rental (at $130 per week).  You can call West coast at 619-544-0606, and Becker Auto at 619-298-5990.  Both companies will allow you to get your own Mexican Insurance (which is about $40-$65 for the entire week at www.bajabound.com).  Becker Auto seems to be the family’s favorite.  If you go there, tell Bill that Alicia from Mi CASA del MAR says hello.  He will actually go to the site and get you the Mexican Insurance himself, without charging you any more than as if you got it yourself.  That is what I call good service.

Remember to keep those letters coming.  There is so much to know about San Felipe.
Regards,
Alicia
